Date : 10 July 2008 Time : 08h00 - 14h00AN outraged Nelson Mandela Bay municipality is set to challenge Fifa‘s decision to strip it of its status as one of five host cities for next year‘s Confederations Cup.
Angry Mayor Nondumiso Maphazi slammed the Fifa Local Organising Committee (LOC) for removing the city from the tournament which is being used as a dry run for the 2010 World Cup.
The announcement was made after a 2010 LOC board meeting in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
While it was noted significant progress had been made on the R1,5-billion Port Elizabeth stadium and it would be ready for the World Cup, the technical team reported it was unlikely to meet next year‘s March 30 completion deadline.
